Meter Reading

Borden Tri-County Regional Water District utilizes Neptune T-10 Residential Water Meters with the E-Coder R900i Register. The links below are the specs of the meters used and how to read your own meter in case of a leak on the residents side. BTC Water is responsible for water all the way up to the residents meter. When the water passes through the meter, the resident then becomes responsible for the usage. The below steps will also help you get into your water meter pit and read the meter yourself in case of a leak.

Step 1: Locate your water meter pit, generally found towards the front of a property, near the street. The pit is typically in a direct line with the main outside faucet or set on the either side of property line.

Step 2: Turn the pent nut counter clockwise to open the lid. The nuts get stiff so you may need to use a wrench or channel locks. Be careful removing the lid as the white disk and black wire are an antenna used to read your meter. Set it on the ground beside you. Damage to this antenna is homeowners responsibility and could result in a replacement charge.

Step 3: Lift the protective lens flap on the face of the meter to see the digital screen. If the sunlight can reach into the pit the LCD display will begin rotating through sets of numbers. If the meter face doesn't light up you will need a high powered flash light to shine on the solar cells. The first set of numbers is the meter ID, the second set of numbers is the meter reading, and the third set of numbers shows how much water is currently flowing through the meter in gallons per minute (gpm). If you are not using any water the third set of numbers will display 0.0 gpm.

Step 4: Once done, please put your meter lid back on carefully so nothing gets damaged. Make sure to tighten nut back down. If you have any questions please call the office.
